Parting is such sweet sorrow...

I can't believe its over, I leave tomorrow, I really do feel like I just arrived! Thanks to those that read every day and stuck to it (I may be speaking to only one person but...meh!)

Today happened fairly slowly I woke up from a touch and go sleep and freaking out before remembering I had my haircut (It felt like it was all gone) I stumbled downstairs for breakfast. Enjoying my Zinnabon and fresh OJ over Scooby Doo I then headed back up feeling full to attempt to stuff my suitcase...mild success...I think I may have broken something though, I guess I'll find out when I get back

Feeling satisfied I decided it was time to head into UC for some lunch and drinks. After yoghurt and a long drawing session at Cha I headed back paying my video fees along the way. Once home I crashed on the couch and didn't wake up for the next 2 and a half hours, maybe my bodies preparing for the time change ; p

I decided I'd hit the gym for a little while were I bumped into MIke from art and after having a chat and spotting him as he did some weights I left to get make some dinner. More leftovers (boring) I ate quickly, then sipping a Chai tea I flicked through channels watching bits and pieces of Shrek, Miss Congeniality, The grinch who stole christmas and a few other embarrasingly lame christmas specials.

After a while I decided I'd try and sell the hairdressing voucher I bought at the beginning of the quarter. After peddling for half and hour or so, being refused access into houses, and given lots of weirs looks, I finally came accross some one who was willing to buy it for $40...better than nothing : )

Now I'm chilling in the room doin nothin!

Kinda bored actually, I think this may be my last entry in America, the next will be from my room in Sydney!
Thanks again for sticking with it

I will keep going blog wise but it will be on a different page, If you want to keep up to date with my drawings and whats happening with my final year at Uni I welcome you to join me, stay tuned for the link

Until next time

A new (short) do : )

It began late as I blissfully lay in bed knowing I had nothing to do and nowhere to be. I finally relented at 9 and slipped out of bed into my uggs and downstairs for brecci. Browsing the fridge and trying to get rid of the last of my groceries I had a variety of different foods smooshed together in a bowl then feeling a little sick and vowing never to put that combination together again I trudged upstairs to sort out my room.

As most things didn’t open till later that day I figured I’d take everything I owned and put it on Sanda’s bed as she was already packed and gone. After an hour of heaving, placing, sorting and folding I packed what I could in the box sent to me earlier this quarter and gathering together some things for the day I made my way down to the office to complete my second errand for the day – moving out.

Unfortunately they told me I had to move out then and there, so after signing a few documents and handing over my key I quickly popped back up to the dorm to make sure people would be there this afternoon to let me in. (Thank god Reiko is leaving on the 28th!) Saying goodbye and thank you to Rani, even if I was a little miffed about being forced out on the day (you think they’d let me keep the keys and put it in a drop box – anyway) I left then for the University Centre to mail the 20pound box I had lug all the way there!!!

After grabbing a yoghurt and discussing with the ladies in the post office how much I could take on the plane we agreed it would be a better idea to take the box with me (saved me $95) So grabbing a seat in Cha and ordering some lunch and a drink I sat and drew for the next few hours.

Mid afternoon I decided to head back, crossing my fingers someone would be there to let me in. It was a long walk, almost keeling over half way due to the giant box I had to lug all the way back! I’ve never come that close to just giving up, seriously I got three quarters of the way there and really considered just leaving it on the sidewalk. Luckily it has all my drawings in it (the only reason I didn’t)

Shaking and close to crying I finally made it home to a locked door and empty house, letting out a small silent scream I was determined to get in so putting down my things I walked up the side stairs and began banging like a mad women on the door, finally hearing the sound of rustling and mumbling I called out for Johnny, “Lesley is that you” Thankfully he let me in and I could relax.

Later that afternoon I met Johnny, Reiko and a friend downstairs to make rice balls and chat, then after a dinner of salad and using the left over rice in a stir fry (I cut the veggies) I left them to continue drawing. Finishing waving to Sanda disappearing in the distance after a teary final goodbye, I went to the gym to distract myself. It was pretty quite and deadly cold when I left to go back. That night I couldn’t sleep, finally falling into a light doze at 4am.

I awoke at 7 and unable to fall asleep again I had some breakfast and took my computer and sketchbook to the markets. The Day was spent browsing the markets, drawing in Cha, Shopping at Fashion Island were I had my hair done and bumped into Brisa who took me to South Coast Plaza. It was here I bought a few things from Gap, transferring funds into my account using the internet from a really nice lady trying to get people to buy the Disney channel. Then catching a cab home and managing to get the guy to give me a flat rate of $30 I grabbed some yoghurt from Golden Spoon and headed home. One more day to go : (

Comming soon
please read the last couple of days bellow! (updated today)

Brace yourselves!

Ok I’m back, sorry about the delay in the last few posts, I also apologise for the exceptionally long entry you must now endure because of it, I would skip over details but unfortunately its details that make the last few days so incredibly cool!!

Ok. I shall try my best to remember, hang in there and here we go

A date with DESTINY!

I woke up to the sound of my muffled alarm clock crying for attention under my pillow, I got up easily having slept ok the night before, despite the creakiness of the bed and questionable cleanliness of the doona. The sheets were handed to me washed though and those had been the ones wrapped around my face all night - phew – very slowly I made my way of the bed and around the dark room, feeling for clothes and toiletries, then careful not to the wake the gaggle of Italian girls sharing the room I slipped outside and changed in the bathroom, fully awake as my bare feet touched the freezing tiles of the toilet.

Once dressed I made my way down the purple stairs following the signs to “free pancakes” and the sounds of clinking plates. It was here I found portable stoves, jugs of pancake mix and other cooking utensils, it was fend for yourself. Chowing down on a second attempt, disguising the partially uncooked batter with two packets of berry jam I grabbed my bag and sketchbook, and walked into the cold, my fingers crossed that it wouldn’t rain!

I walked the familiar route to Market street and after finding out were the bus stopped, I enjoyed a tub of yoghurt whilst listening to the Sweeny Tod Soundtrack in Virgin (only store open). The bus arrived right in time, and eager to get out of the cold I quickly jumped on finding a seat in the front with a great view. The bus was more a coach and we travelled around the wharf picking up a few extra passengers, finding out the history behind some monuments then it was of to Emeryville.

Once there I bought a ticket for that afternoon and with my heart beating faster I began the walk to PIXAR. It was a little longer than I thought and wasn’t were I thought it would be, as I continued nervously up the street I finally asked a guy on his way home from shopping who told me I was looking at it – “the entrance is on the other side” it was then that I say the bold brass letters of pixar peeking out over the hedges and I half skipped half ran around the block (stopping for chocolates for Paul on the way).

As I came round the corner I saw it, the entrance, it seemed to glow despite the sombre clouds stretching in over the horizon making it seem like 4:30 in the afternoon. My heart feeling like it would explode out of my chest and get there before I would I cautiously approached the security gates.

“H..Hello, um, my names Lesley, I’m here to see Paul Topolos”
Guard: (his pixar name bag shining) Allrighty Lesley, let me just see if your on the list
I waited nervously holding onto the window as if I would keel over at any moment
Guard: (talking on the phone) yep, a Lesley, to see – sorry who was it again?
Um, Paul Topolos, he’s a mat painter (as if that matters)
Guard: Paul Topolos, oh ok, yep will do
I started shaking, assuming Paul had forgotten, and they’d escort me of the premises, I began looking around for security guards
Guard: Allrighty Lesley, heres your visitors badge, just put that on your top, go through the doors on the left and sign in at reception

I couldn’t believe it, I was in! I don’t think I even said thankyou I was so shocked, dazed I walked over to the gate and heard the buzz as he let me through. My senses suddenly skyrocketed as though I had been hit with toxic waste and I was strangely aware of the new shining visitors badge crinkle slightly as my jumper creased with my shifting weight. My legs felt like jelly and with eyes literally bugging out of my head trying to take it all in I took as many photos as I could.

I arrived at the giant glass doors and caught my reflection, I was so delirious I think I sawt it smile at me nodding encouragingly for me to go through, taking a deep breath I pushed the doors open immediately getting a view of the entire atrium, like the opening to Monsters Incorporated, I saw people bustling about with sketches, ideas and purpose. The entire hall was buzzing, to the left was Mike and Sully pushing me forward and to the right a nice sitting area surrounded with Ratatouille merchandise.

I walked over to the reception desk and was greeted by a smiling employee, hello there, who are you here to see today? “Paul Topolos” I gushed, unable to keep my enthusiasm from spilling out. Just as she was about to page him she saw him walk down the stairs and beckoned him over. I turned to see him saying goodbye to a friend and shyly made my way towards him.

All of a sudden I was being embraced in a warm hug “Hi Lesley, wow you’re so courageous for making it here by yourself, can I get you anything? Tea, coffee, snacks?” I almost choked on my saliva, and mouth open simply handed him the chocolates “these are for you” I managed to pipe up “Wow thanks, ooh these are nice ones, are you sure you don’t want anything, I’m getting a coffee” I managed to agree that a water would be great and followed him to the canteen (more like a really nice cafĂ©) After grabbing water and slowly finding my voice again I searched desperately for my personality. Fortunately with Paul it wasn’t hard to do.

Soon later we were merrily chatting away as he showed me around the atrium and upstairs galleries, (all Ratatouille themed), warning me he had to slip away for half an hour or so at 11:30 for a meeting. After finishing with the Bud Lucky gallery and few more rat machetes he apologised for having to go and said I was welcome to keep looking (as long as I stayed on the wood) or chill in the atrium till he came back. I did both, peeking in all the offices along the hallways and smiling like an idiot as I watched everyone zip by on scooters.

Having some more time to kill after my second sweep of the galleries I found a nice spot near the games area to draw, complimented by a few people as they walked past. “Wow Lesley are these yours” Paul had come back early and brought some friends, after shouting me lunch I sat down with all the guys as they flipped through my art book, eating and discussing the business, thankfully I had a bit to contribute!

I couldn’t believe it I was sitting with some of the most important people in the company discussing my opinion on the industry! Making them laugh at a few of my crazy stories while I’ve been here.

All too soon it was time for them to get going (although they waited for me to finish eating!) and telling Paul I had met Andrew Gordon (an animator I was instructed under in Sydney) who had told me to stick around and wait I thanked him again for everything and continued drawing while I waited. After a little while (and an introduction with a few more important people as well as a sneak into a small room with famous signatures all over the wall) I was escorted into the animation department to see Andrew. It was CRAZY the place was beyond what I ever imagined, I went from rainforest to Indian temples, Outhouses, boards of drawings and caricatures, then it was in to Andrews office.

He still had a fair bit of work to do, so assuring him I could wait I escorted myself out (taking the long way) and continued drawing outside. What seemed like 2 minutes later (actually 2 hours or so) I heard “Wow, what are you up to” he had come out to meet me and was taking a look at some of my drawings, “what year are you in?” he asked surprised, after telling him his interest seemed to increase and he took me back into his office.

His mind was obviously somewhere else as he vaguely went over what he’d been up to (mind, he could have described the toilet and I would have been happy). Then regrettably having to get back to work (He’s head of animation on the new short so he’s crazy busy) he showed me his secret casino (lift the head of a statue and press the button in its neck – the bookcase opens up to show a casino, complete with bar, crabs table and photos lining the wall of famous visitors) then showed me out.

With one last look around the Atrium a good luck and goodbye from Andrew (“see you again I hope” “you sure will”) and a huge contented sigh I hitched up my bag and sketchbook and walked away…knowing I would be back!

After a long walk back to the station ( I think I flew) I bought a yoghurt/sorbet ice block and waited for the bus to arrive. The bus driver was really nice and after engaging me in conversation the whole way he dropped me of at the destination of my choice were after a spot of shopping and a giant hot pretzel and Chai tea I made my way back to the hostel.

Waiting for it to hit midnight so I could call Al for her birthday I joined in a pool competition, were I won a t-shirt for best shot of the night (I heart SF) and saying goodnight to a host of new friends and high fives from the girls I made the call then headed to bed (jumping in the shower for another hairy (literally) experience).

The Day after

The next day I woke up late enjoying the sleep in, until I finally forced my self to go downstairs for what was left of pancake batter. After signing out and eating my lowly pancake on toilet paper (clean) – smearing jam on with my finger as I was too lazy to wash up – I checked my bag into reception and finding out that I didn’t have to meet Joselyn (one of the guys let me use their phone) I walked down post st with a map to Mission were I had been told a plethora of graffiti and murals awaited me. Taking on the walk after a huge serving of frozen yoghurt (the expensive one from the first day) I battled the wind down Mission street. It was a little hairy as I stepped deeper and deeper into downtown SF, looking around, I began swinging my umbrella with force, looking angry and occasionally muttering to myself to appear crazy, (cursing myself for wearing my stripped socks, “Luv your socks pretty girl” (just keep your head down and keep walking)). Finally I made it to mission, were I cautiously made my way up littered alleyways to look at the graffiti. I wasn’t the only one, and after finally getting used to the company I enjoyed the drawings littering the walls and streets.

My favourite was the women’s centre, a huge two storey building covered with a kaleidoscope of all sorts of women from different professions and backgrounds smiling and embracing each other. After getting through everything I headed back to Market st, stopping in on of the biggest art Supply stores I had ever seen! (There was a whole room dedicated to paper!)

Getting hungry I noticed a buffet sign as I rounded the corner to 12th street and hearing my tummy grumble in agreeance I walked in. It was a bargain, 11.50 for an all you could eat Chinese, Japanese, seafood buffet. After four plates of sushi, stir fries, noodles, miso soup, seafood, pork buns and loads more I rolled out and looked through Town Hall. A beautiful Mosta dome type building complete with a giant Christmas tree decorated with paper cranes and stars.

Walking down the rest of market st and arriving at familiar shops I headed into Westfield to watch Juno at 2:30 (really funny!) then continued shopping for a few hours (grabbing another pretzel – sooo good!).

As the afternoon drew on and I had tried on enough cloths – I was pretending I was on a fashion shoot (don’t judge I had three hours to kill) I decided it was time to get my bag and make my way to the airport. Luckily I decided to go early as I caught the wrong train (went the wrong way) then found out I had read to wrong time on the ticket, instead of 10:10 I was actually flying out at 8:47.

Freaking out I willed the train on distracted partially by the disturbance at the front of the carriage. The minutes ticked mockingly away as my window grew less and less, every stop and light took forever as I closed my eyes willing the bus to go faster!! Finally we were at the airport and I ran to the front desk to grab my ticket (so frazzled I almost left without it – “wait you might need this”) luckily I was just in time and after finding out I would have to find my own way home, I boarded the plane for an hour trip back home chatting away to a 9 year old travelling by himself.

We arrived in the OC early and after taxying into the terminal I grabbed my things and headed to the cab rank for a ride to the dorm. That night I went straight to sleep exhausted but content. Until later today – thanks for reading!

San Francisco

What a day! It began at 5:30, waaay too early but a necesity with my flight leaving at quarter past 7. I quickly got dressed an left Sanda to continue trying to get up. Having washed my face and feeling a little better I re-woke Sanda and was fairwelled by Anna and Reiko, who wanted to make sure they saw me before I left.

Walking sleepily downstairs with Sanda after waking her for the third time we ate breakfast in weary silence and began the trek to her car, half way there she realised she had forgotten her key, so running back (she's extrememly fast when she wants to be) I waited in the deserted stretch of sand for her return, watching the tumble weed roll lazily accross the feild.

Not too long and she was back then hoping in the car and giving it a few starts we were of to the airport. She dropped me at the Atlanta terminal and hugging goodbye (not sure whether I'll see her again) I left for to collect my ticket and make my way onto the crowded plane.

It was a short flight to Oakland, which had a lot to do with the fact I fell into a groggy sleep straight away. Trying to snap myself out of it as the captains voice crackled over the loudspeaker "we have now arrived in Oakland" I gave myself a few light slaps and quickly grabbed my bag from under the seat in front.

It was busy inside the terminal and the wind and rain outside had put a melancholy mood on the passangers, but I perked up with clear information from the ladies at the transport desk and after a tub of yoghurt and a friendly chat with the lady who selled it too me I was of into the rain to wait at 3E for air bart - the shuttle that would take me to the station.

We rode express through Oakland which didn't give me a chance to see a great deal, however considering what people have warned me about Oakland, I'm not sure whether thats a bad thing. The rain hadn't let up as I made my way into the station, starring perplexed at the ticket machine that you just put money in - luckily the ladies had told me exactly how much I would need (3.35) so pulling my ticket, receipt and change from the chute I proudly rode the escalators up to the platform.

Catching the bus was relatively easy, and when we arrived at Central I got of (and trying not to look lost) made my way into the now torrential rain drenching the city. It took me a while to find the hotel, stopping to ask a few clueless people, getting harrassed by a couple of bums and seeking refuge in more than one brightly lit fastfood resteraunt. Watching a blind women get drenched on the bus platform I desctretely covered her with my umbrella and once on the bus was finally pointed in the right direction.

The Hostel is brilliant, bright and bustling with all sorts of people form all over the world. I was met by a nice guy that after going over the usuall check in procedure told me a few tips and tricks for getting around as well as a list of all the social activities happening in the dorms (tonight is beer pong!).

The room is nice and clean, I even get the top bunk. After putting on my linen and taking a rest I made my way outside again with a map and a vague idea about how I would spend the rest of the day...first up food! I walked into China town for sushi, which was given to me on delcate wooden boats floating sereenly along a fake pond around the sushi counter, then browsing the overflowing streets and marvelling at architecture, crazy lamps and stores I eventually arrived at Fishermans wharf.

I didn't stay long, just for a bad Chai tea at a huge bakery and a superficial look at the wax museum and Ripley's believe it or not. I decided I'd catch the street car around all the peirs and getting of at Market street walked to Fourth and Mission to find the giant movie theatres.

It was here I found an awesome frozen yogurt place that combined it with fruit in the crazy drill machine, I took my giant tub into the theatres and enjoyed "The Golden Compass" that would have been awesome except for the ending! It was getting dark, but determined to be adventureous I continued to paroose the streets, doing a spot of shopping (soo many good shops) and enjoying the streets that were suddenly comming alive with twinkling lights and laughing people.

Ending me exphedition in borders, full after dinner, a smoothie and a pretzel I made my way back to the hotel, were after renting a towl and writing to you I will crash early for a big day tomorrow!
Until then : )

Ok Birdie, work with me!

Today began at 8:30, early considering I didn't have to be any where till noon. I got up anyway when I remembered what was for breakfast and pulling on my uggs, headed downstairs for my hot spongy cinomon roll, fresh OJ and fruit...mmmm...wishing I hadn't finished so soon and flicking channels insesantly I came across "Pay it Forward" so decided to hang on the couch to watch it.

After a while Reiko joined me and we enjoyed the movie whilst making snowflakes from left over paper and string. Tearing up at the end and not wanting to ball my eyes out downstairs I mumbled that I needed to get dressed and headed upstairs with tears rolling down my cheeks, I hate sad movies!

once dressed and ready I headed to the ARC to meet Brisa for a game of Badminton. I thoroughly sucked, so luckily Brisa was pretty patient and able to save the birdie everytime I sent it careening over into the other courts. We eventually gave up and after handing in our equipment spent some time on the elliptical machines (they are so hard to use without looking stupid) and doing weights (her step dads a personal trainer so she knew her stuff). Of course we spent most of the time chatting and laughing, catching up on the weeks events as well as finding out more about each others backgrounds.

At 2:30 she had to shower and get to work so I left for a shower back in the dorm, and once I too was dressed and sweet smelling walked over to the uni centre for yogurt and a Tea. Sitting in Cha was also my Visual Media tutor Daynah and after saying hi, finding out my exam mark and getting my essay back I sat down for a major drawing session, including Brisa's new name tag (I drew baby polar bears all over it : )

It quickly got cold and dark outside, so leaving at 20 to 6 I hurried home for dinner. It was chicken and crab salad, drenched in Cha's thick tangy dressing whilst watching Brain Training - a series about the development of the brain...interesting stuff!

After a dessert of Jelly and yogurt I headed to my room to send some emails, do some drawing and of course write in me blog!
until tomorrow

sorry for the delay

Ok, its been a busy few days so I'll try my best to remember, friday started unusually late, getting up at 9: 30 when I had planed to be ready with errands done at 10. Fortunately the rest of the girls were also a little weary (or still sleeping) and were happy to postpone our ARC trip to midday.

I hurried then to get ready and busied myself for the next couple of hours by handing in assignments, giving out christmas cards, saying goodbye to a few people and grabbing tea and yoghurt from the University centre. I also had an awkward goodbye with Marian from Trader Joes, when I gave her the card I mistook her "is this it?" for "is this all your giving me" and nodding was given a huge hug and fairwell, now I don't know whether I can go back in there, and I just ran out of dried mango...

I arrived back at the dorm right on time, and was surprised to see everyone totally not ready, after another hour of waiting and wishing I hadn't rushed my tea, we were finally on our way at 1. Anna, Rieko, Mariko, Lauren and I headed to the ARC for the ULTIMATE sports day, I was determined to try EVERY single sport you could do.

After a few stretches we started with Squash, I explained the rules and after a while practicing we had a few matches, Lauren won (she does rowing and is one of those sporty people that just picks things up naturally) Laughing at our patheticness and how we almost killed each other a few times we exchanged out rackets for Badminton equipment and a volleyball. It was 1 on 1 and 1 on 2 in Badminton with Rieko and I against Lauren, we spent most of the time dancing and making sounds as we hit the ball (which sent me into a fit of hysterics) then it was loser volleyball, as we couldn't play properly and made the rules that you could catch the ball but only for a second.

This of course meant that ball catching involved a scream, chucking it in the air then laughing madly. Saying goodbye to Anna as she had to go to the post office we headed out to the basketball courts were Mariko and I won against lauren and Reiko, I'm sure it was because of the game plan I had devised before we began

"Ok Mariko, we're small so they have the advantage"
"Yes"
"So we have to be sneaky"
'Oh yes, yes"
"get low and grab the ball when you can"

We won 4 to 5 and surprisingly I shot all of our goals, lucky shots... I ran back to exchange our equipment then met the others on the tennis courts for the worst game of tennis EVER (was spent half the time staring into the sun and the rest of the time chasing after the ball! giving up I proposed we played handball, which lasted for about 1/2 an hour, the highlight when Mariko explained to Reiko the rules in Japanese : )

Last on the list was Ping Pong, then sliding around on the slippery floor in the Athletics room we called it a day. Later that night after dinner and a shower I helped Evelyn ice cookies for Meredeth and helped Meredeth deliver them to the staff in the AV office. Once back Anna and I borrowed a video from Blockbuster and after chugging down half a tub of yogurt and my left over Pasta we settled down to watch Moulin Rouge.

It was so great, seeing it on the tv instead of broken up on my computer, I fell asleep to the road to El Darado that night, dreaming of yogurtland the next day.

Because I went to bed at 11:30 I woke up @ 7:30, glad to get up and go the markets. It was the same as usual, grabbing a zinabon, OJ, dates and tasters whilst listening happily to the Jamacan singer playing his drums and singing about the people in the market

"Look at the girl in the grey sweater, she's dancin in the street cos it makes her heart sing, she'll be dancin to the car..."

Grabbing my bounty and heading to Cha I spent the rest of the morning drinking and drawing (the same guy I drew last time sat next to me) I was also joined for a while by Reiko who spent the whole time watching me draw (she's got patience, I felt so bad, like I was ignoring her, but she was happy to look over my shoulder...for an hour)

Saying goodbye to the girls and handing Brisa her drawing I grabbed some groceries from TJ (Marian wasn't there) and headed back for lunch with Jen, what started out as lunch at Japanese with Jen, her boyfriend and his friend, turned into Lunch and shopping at South Coast Plaza with Jen, Jan, Elodie and Nami. It was really fun (except for my lunch...$12 for a soggy omelet, cold toast and old fruit) the highlight was actually finding a park!

On our way back home we stopped by yogurtland then walking back from Albertsons (I had to meet Sarah at the dorm) I arrived, had dinner and waited on the couch for her to show. It was a long drive to her church but filled with discussing movies and other fun topics. We waited in the line after meeting a few people, trailing in at 7 for a 7:30 start. It was Sarah, me, Peter and James (her brothers) and her Dad. It was a great show, the highlight was the bell choirs - they play songs just using bells - and singing christmas carols.

When the show was over and I had filled up every space on my program with drawings (I couldn't help it they put a pencil right in front of me) I was taken around to meet a few very excited people "Oh my god, are you really from Australia, wait say something, agghh I love you, you have to hang out with us!" then it was home, discussing favorite cartoons, B grade movies and cult/trash flicks the whole way.

I left after playing her a Cheetah girls song, arriving in the dorm to watch the end of Kung Paw (I had to go upstairs as I was laughing so much I couldn't breath) now I'm listening to the commentary on Moulin Rouge and typing for you guys, call me for further details as I've left out a few things

send me updates to what your up to : )

Do you speak english

Hey there all those circling cyber space that have happened upon this page (and of course my regular readers..all 5 of you : )
Its been another great day in the ever increasingly colder State of South California. A day that began at 6:30 for breakfast and a baking session (I made cookies to take to James). Once dressed, with cookies in one hand and my sketch book in the other I grabbed Meredith and together we made our way to the station (stopping for directions along the way).

Unfortunately we arrived late, so I missed my train but to my happiness the metro came shortly after and I was on my way to LA. It was over an hour before I arrived and it was straight to the gold line to continue to Pasadena. It was on the next leg of the journey that things began to get weird. I was first engaged in conversation with a random Latino looking for someone to talk to, after complementing me on my glasses, my looks, my socks and personality (I was sure he wanted money) he gave me his number and accompanying me down the street once I was of the train showed me were he worked and hoped to see me again later that day.

A little weirded out but holding his number in my hand never the less I kept down the street towards the studio, it was whilst crossing the road that further weirdness occurred, as I got the middle I turned when a car horn broke the silence, not seeing anything suspicious I continued, but when I got to the other side I was pulled over by a cop car!

Opening the door and stradling the side walk hitching up his belt and gun he starred at me angrily,
"what do you think your doing?"
"sorry?"
"You saw me tell you not to do it!"
"I'm sorry, do what?"
"Cross the road! three cars had to stop for you, you were almost run over! I'm not here to clean up your mess you know!"
- the light was red so the cars had to slow down anyway, and only one car slowed prematurely for me with no cars behind it!
Me:"I'm sorry"
"Can I see your drivers license"
"Sure"
"Were are you from? do you not know how to cross a road?"
"Australia"
"Right do you just cross the road willy nily there, huh, do you understand me..do you speak english?!"
"Yes, I'm sorry"
"Well do you not have road rules there, do you just cross the road whenever"
"sometimes"
"Well when your in OUR country RESPECT our road rules ok! I don't want to have to write you a ticket"
"Ok sorry, wont happen again" -

Another hitch of his belt, then he jumped back in the car and was of, probably to harrass an old granny crossing the road too slowly. A little shaken, but still determined I made my way to the building and upstairs to the studio. James wasn't there yet so I chatted to the producer and sipped a mug of water while I waited. When James arrived we spent the morning catching up, showing him my drawings and getting some feedback on my improvement and what I need to do next. They also shared around the cookies which were big hit (phew - thought I'd burnt them!)

After midday I got the feeling they were getting busy and needed to buckle down to work, so saying goodbye and promising to keep him posted I headed back out for a Jamba juice at the most lively store I've seen yet (they were all dancing and yelling out drink orders) and the two and a half hour train trips home.

The train wasn't too bad, watching an office hold a scavenger hunt party (for some it was their first time on a train), meeting a man that wanted me to mind his stuff while he paroosed the train (weird guy that kept abusing the Amtrak system) and being over charged for purchasing a train ticket on the train ("did an Amtrak employee tell you you could do that? cos they wont tell you its extra" - figures!)

Waiting at the station for half an hour Meredith picked me up and took me back to the uni centre were I grabbed yogurt and tea, then it was back to the dorm to meet Sam for a riddle and a trip back the UC for dinner (we met up with Mariko, Nami and Anna)

After spending a few hours there chatting, eating and laughing (discussing waxing, bra shopping and constipation..poor Sam) we headed back home for a spell in Jens and Namis room watching You tube videos then it was blog and eventually bed time
Until tomorrow : )

I'm walkin on Sunshine

Hey friends

Today turned out to be awesome, beginning with a jog and breakfast (not at the same time) I finished watching the princess of thieves, whilst getting ready for the days activities. Having showered and got dressed I headed into the Uni center struggling with my artwork in the wind to arrive 15 minutes later, finding a good seat in Cha to relax and draw (after some yogurt and lunch).

Watching the time closely I left just past 12 promising Brisa I'd draw her some baby polar bears and aiming get to class by one. I arrived early, and used the time to write in a card for the live nudes. As people started drearily filing in we set up our feast of cakes, biscuits and pizza and began critiquing, discussing and commending the work on display. I was really happy that everyone liked mine, especially considering how much time I had put into it, however all too soon it was time to get to Video and saying goodbye, good luck and thank you to everyone I was given a chorused "goodbye lesley" as I walked wistfully through the door. laughing as I heard a huge chorus again as I left the building, "Goodbye" I called back smiling, then I turned and headed down the steps of 160 for the last time.

Waiting for video to start in the labs I met those who had turned up in the classroom and we began showing our films. Brett was first with "the Dream Machine" it was really well edited with a nice use of green screen to give a vertigo effect as he spun from room to room (at one point I got really dizzy though) unfortunately after the class had finished congratulating him Ulysis tore him to shreds! (It had no story, vacant, didn't consult with anyone etc...) Watching him closely to see whether he'd tear up, I sank further into the chair waiting for my time to come.

After Hannan had been equally critisised it was my turn, I hesitated not wanted harsh feedback after all my hard work, but it was no use delaying ("shouldn't we wait for Hannan to get back from making popcorn?") and after giving a short explanation about my efforts, idea and process it was time for the film to speak for itself.

Surprisingly it went pretty well, with his biggest criticism being I could have pushed the music further (no music to make it a little more edgy). relieved I sunk back into my chair and waited for class to end. At 6 we gave up waiting for Chris to show up and after giving another farewell speech we began to trickle out into the cold night air (or freezing night air really). Chris suddenly showed screeching in on his bike and pulled us back inside to watch the show, unfortunately I couldn't stay so wishing him luck I headed to Pippins to meet Nami and Jen for dinner.

It was buffet style and by the end of the hour I had gotten my 8.50's worth (two types of pasta with meatballs, Pork stirfry, salad, eggs, 2 beef tortillas, a taste of a peanut butter and Jelly sandwich (when in America) bread roll, bran muffin, jelly, yogurt, milk, OJ, two BBQ chicken breasts with veggies, and on the way out I stashed two eggs, a bagel, an apple and some cookies in my bag!) my tray was almost toppling over with plates when I carried it to the kitchen : )

I left the others at the carpark and headed to Trader Joes to buy chocolates for the live Nudes then slipping in the chrissy card walked over to Little Theatre to watch the practice run and help set up. When I arrived I was given a big hello after a few had allready said hi ("ok everyone say their hellos to Lesley.."HI LESLEY") smiling and waving like an idiot I took a seat up the back and began drawing. Just before they headed outside to the begin the pre-show I offered to tape it (Natasha was trying to sticky tape her camera to the tripod).

The show was great, except for the fact I couldn't find the tripod when I came back and had to hold the camera steady for an hour (OUCH!) After the show I infiltrated the crowd with the camera catching the tears, hugging and laughter as they celebrated their final show. Then when everyone had left and the camera ran out of film I watched them swap secret Santa presents and cleaned up the hall (collecting lost property - I found 5 pacers!! score).

Just before I left, Natasha called out that they open my present and going bright red I tried to sneak away, taking too long to find my stuff they read the card aloud in front of me then rushed up to hug me "I touched her first!!" It was so nice, I think I split my lip I was smilling so much! promising to keep in touch I left quietly skipping away into the night so high I don't even remember the walk home ; p

Once home I had a long chat with Jessie then at 1am headed upstairs to bed, falling asleep to the pagemaster as Sanda promised she'd turn it of.

The next morning began at 10 and happened fairly leasurly, breakfast was cereal and fuit then after writing a list of errands I headed into Uni to sit in Cha for 5 hours drawing and talking with friends.

as it got dark I finished the last dregs of my second Taro tea (on the house courtesy of Brisa) then strolled home stopping by Alberstsons for a few groceries.

feeling as though my bum was flat from all the sitting I then headed back outside for a walk and a spell at the gym, bumping into Clayton and Benny from drama. comming back it took me 40 minutes to get through the house to my room as I was stopped on each landing for a chat and week synopsis breakdown.

Now after getting Meredith to take me to the Train station tomorrow (phew! it would have taken me two hours by bus - opposed to 10 minutes) I'm in my room writing to all you lovely people and thinking excitedly of tomorrow.

Until then : )

For your viewing pleasure

Hey everyone, man am I in a good mood, today was my final session with Chris after a run around the campus (almost froze my arms of) saying goodbye and giving her a chrissy card I left for the uni centre were after an eggplant and chicken sandwhich for lunch and yogurt for dessert I nestled myself in Cha for a few hours of study.

Finishing my taro tea and reading till the internet went funny on my computer, I left for EAP to continue my dedication. 1/2 an hour before the exam was scheduled to begin I sold my text book at the bookstore (wont be needing that any more : ) and purchasing a 27cent blue book (exam booklet) I struggled to keep all the knowledge I had just retained from dribbling out my ears.

Getting a good seat in the back and waiting for them to check our books I yelled goodluck to everyone and we were of. It wasn't as scary or hard as I thought and after about 40 minutes of completing checking and re-checking! I handed it in, took a photo with Daynah (my TA) and headed out with Sarah, discussing our alternate papers (she got paper B were as I got A, I suppose its to stop us copying of each other in the close space..makes sense)

Saying goodbye to her at the bookstore I continued to the university centre to CELEBRATE!! This involved buying two books from the comic store (there goes my cash back from the text book), beef stew for dinner at Cha along with another Taro tea with EXTRA pearls (again) whilst I enjoyed reading my books. Picking up some dried mango on the way home I spoke to Yvette before popping into the video store to splurge on a few DVD's (El dorado, The page master and The princess of thieves).

As soon as I was back I got changed and settled down on my bed to watch the page Master. Just as I began to delve into the special features Sanda mentioned she and Scott were heading to Yogurtland, wondering if I wanted to come along "Heck yeah!" man (best day eva!!) so trying 6 flavours (cookies n cream, mango, cheescake, strawberry, taro and another) then heaping all sorts of fruit on top I paid my $3.22 and sat down with them to enjoy.

It was a short drive back, discussing the brave little toaster and other childhood favourites. Then saying goodbye and goodluck to Scott I began El Dorado

Now for your viewing pleasure a peek at how deliriously happy I am today
Please laugh your pants of (I did!)

What time is it? Summer time!

Ok I'm back, still pretty buggered, but just able to give the rundown on the last two days, after all I have to do something while I'm waiting for Moulin Rouge to download (I know, naughty but I did finish my artwork, I gotta celebrate somehow)

Yesterday was pretty easy going, I got to the markets early, determined not to miss out on a zinnabon, and thanks to my punctuality I grabbed a nice big one before they were all gone. I continued to do my usual browse, grab some dates, mossy, buy some OJ, more mossy, saying thank you to the people that commented on my socks...and just a touch more moseying.
Moseyed out I went back into the centre, stopping by Trader Joes for bread and mangoes, then settling down on a bench to do some study and wait for Golden spoon to open, I rugged up in the wind smiling, listening and watching all the families having fun walking about.

Getting through a large portion of my book, I rewarded myself with cookies and cream and strawberry cheesecake flavoured yogurt, then headed into Cha for beef stew and salad for lunch. Promising myself I wouldn't leave before I had finished filling in all my study guide I also ordered a large Taro with extra pearls for brain strength. After a few hours I was satisfied and packing my computer (that was almost dead) headed back to the dorm, stopping by Albertsons to buy ingredients for Chai tea.

Arriving back home just as the rain started to sprinkle down I grabbed some snacks and headed to my room to put my things away and get comfy. I then spent THE REST OF THE NIGHT (till 1am) drawing for my art assignment, having a break for dinner, lollies and a ping pong match with Sam and his friend.

I gave up as it hit one, unable to feel my hands and having shown them all the Australian music I had so saying good night I had a shower and went to bed : )

Today I got up much later heading downstairs at around 9:30 for my extra large zinnabon and fresh OJ. Then doing some final touches on the movie I grabbed my visual media books and headed to Cha for a lunch and another study session. After chicken salad, tea and a good few hours revising film techniques, styles and theories I hugged Brisa goodbye and quickly explaining to some of the guys why I chose UCI headed to Alakazam for a browse and a chat.

On the way home I stopped by Albertsons for some blank DVD's bumping into another Cha worker and catching up on study efforts. (Funnily it was at that exact self serve register that I bumped in Julian yesterday (live nude member) seems to be the hot spot for meeting acquaintances : ) Back home it was straight back to work after getting into tracky dacks and burning my movie on DVD. I spent the rest of the night working on art, watching movies (High School Musical 2 yeah!) and trying to apply for courses next year.

Now its of to bed for a good sleep
Wish me luck for my exam tomorrow : )

OUch!

hey friends, I'm way too nakered to write about today, may have something to do with the 10 hours of drawing I just did..NO JOKE, my hands are all red and swallon, (pain) hopefully its worth it - I'll fix this entry tomorrow, in the meantime enjoy some cloud animation I did in flash

FINISHED

Hey everyone, you are reading the blog of one very pleased girl, I finished my video today, well its 95% done, which is the best feeling the world! This probably has something to do with the fact I've spent the last 6 and a half hours working on it! The day didn't start with this in mind as I rushed down stairs discovering I had slept in and was about to miss my appointment with Chris again!

It was breakfast on the go and short stroll onto campus to see me arrive in the office with 5 minutes to spare - phew! We spent the hour discussing exam stress and yoga techniques then it was straight to the bookstore to meet So Young. Unfortunately she didn't show up, so after doing a quick circle of the student centre to double check and grab a snack or two I spent the hour before class in the EAP office, chatting first to Brendan about home, credit cards and Sydney transport then to Thomas about Sydney's demographic and were I live. (there's a picture of the Northbridge Bridge on Wikipedia!)

Worried about missing the start of class I hurried towards the HH building, nervously peering up at the large grey rain-clouds rolling in across the sky. The class involved us taking a test on narration and pairing up to complete a study guide, then wishign everyone a good weekend it was of under my umbrella to the uni centre for a chicken/eggplant sandwich, yogurt and some editing at Cha.

As I sat in the bustling cafe, glad that Amy was better, and chatting with the guy next to me that liked my socks I managed to get a little done, however it wasn't long before it was time to meet Nauy, and running late as I waited impatiently for the film to render, I packed up my computer and ran back to campus.

We discussed religion, finding out about the buddhist way of life then I taught her some difficult english words and parting after an hour made sure she knew she could always contact me if she needed help, or just a chat : )

Walking home happy the rain seemed to have passed I arrived to see Evelyn making cookies, so rolling up my sleeves and offering to do some stirring, I watched her expterly spoon them out onto a tray and continued upstairs to work on my film. Allowing myself only a dinner break I was determined to finish (listening whistfully to the jingle rock party outside). But at 10:20 my hard work payed of and I finally had something I was mildly happy with! excited and relieved I ran downstairs to tell everyone and seeing only Sam, dragged him upstairs to watch it.

Much to my amazement and delight, he liked it, so it was 6 and half hours well spent, he even mentioned looking forward to a sequel (lets not go that far shall we ; p

After my blog I think I'll join Sanda in sleep (she hasn't slept for three days) then its more work tomorrow, but by Tuesday it will all be over! YOohoO

- I'll try and post the video on my blog..I just have to figure out how

The giant meat ball!!

hey gang, I welcome some new readers, WELCOME, ok now thats done, my day started at 6, well 3 past, I needed that extra three minutes to figure out if it was day, once again our light was on which meant Sanda had pulled another all nighter, I don't know how she does it! I got up and decided to go for an early morning jog as it seems the best time to do it, good weather and empty streets. coming back after a short session in the weight room, I had breaki, showered and collecting sweets from the fridge headed to Drama for my final lesson! : (

We began with a warm up then jumped straight into our new monologues, feeling pretty confident with the words of hamlet swimming in my head "Speak Illusion" I was called up after a few had had their turn. What a disaster, I was so nervous for some reason I couldn't remember my lines and in turn kept falling out of character, I just wish I could have acted something from a film or something modern, Shakespeare always confuses me, making it 10 times harder to remember on the spot. I always get surprised when people laugh in Shakespeare because I never understand the joke for all I know he wrote "Then I went to the bathroom" I end up just laughing along with everyone else, pretending I know whats going on.

After our monologues had been run through we headed outside for snacks and conversation, then saying goodbye for the last time after the BIGGEST group hug I've ever had in my life, I told everyone I'd keep in touch and made my way back to the dorm. grabbing my computer and other tidbits it wasn't long before I was walking through campus taking time out to grab supplies from the book store, and book my flights for San francisco at STA travel. $234 later and a salad from Greens to go I went to meet Ulysis at Cyber A for a chat about Aborigines (ps, does any one know that play that was written about the stolen generation and the projects the communities were put into? I'm pretty sure it was written by a women) then keeping my promise to buy a shirt from Arlyn I picked up a green T with an ogre on the front and continued into the uni centre for a large serving of yogurt and a hot tea at Cha.

I also got my lip waxed but in the wierdest way ever! The lady approached me with a string and simply said "wax or threading" I looked at her shocked, expecting her to pull out a needle.."sorry?" I said staring anxiously at the thread, basically what happens is they twist the thread over the hair so that it catches and gets yanked out, this painful repition lasts for about 2 minutes...longest 2 minutes of my life, plus I was in the hairdressing chair in front of everyone sqwirming like a 5 year old getting their teeth taken out, my eyes were also watering and I kept laughing from the pain...yes I react in strange ways!

After my hot tea, and illustrative addition to my friends name tag (drew a little penguin) I headed into uni for video, which involved watching Mikes and Christines final peices (I'll get a copy of Mikes as I'm in it and you can delight in me spending a minute pretending to fall through the air, got my oscar nod : p then we watched a few of Ulysis.

Bummed out I couldn't stay for the opening of senior ex (three live DJ's and free food!) I went back to the dorm to meet everyone for Bucca de Beppos a family type Italian resteraunt (the large size meals serve about 4 or more people). Unfortunately this involved a lot of waiting around as we hadn't booked, but once we had been led in through the kitchen, (thankful Sam and Mike had stopped playing knuckles - especially as Sams were bright red) we were sat at the table and went on to enjoy a huge feast, lots of laughs, a few games a Chinese whispers and a thankyou speech for the card (going away card) as well as the experience and memories they've given me : )

Cleaning up the fridge for tomorrow on my return (cleaners are going to sought things out tomorrow) I said goodnight and headed upstairs for bed, well thats it from me

"OMG these are the bomb..what is in these cookies?"...."butter, lots of butter"

Hello faithful bloggers, especially those that have hung in there from the beginning, not long to go now when I'll be back amongst most of you and you can look forward to me retelling these tales in person, with animated hand gestures, awkward expressions and what I hope is a totally intact good'ol Australian accent...someone yesterday said I sounded american..whatever!

Today began at 7, as I knew I had to revise my essay before its 3pm deadline. Getting up purely for the thought of having cinnamon toast for breakfast, I trudged downstairs to toasty, butter goodness, fruit on the side. Unable to prolong breakfast in longer it was back upstairs to go over some work, and once finished and sent to FedEx I mucked around on final cut to begin editing my video (that pursuit was short lived).

At around midday, I got restless and decided to head into the uni centre with my wallet and sketch book, stopping to chat to mum along the way (no not in person). Once there it was a trip to traders and a stay at Golden Spoon (In the spirit of christmas they had St Nick mint today..first time eva...sooo delicious) gobbling down me tub of goodness in surprising time, I said goodbye and went to pick up my print job from FedEx...$1.30 - bargain! paper under my arm and reminiscing about the chat with Will and Holly (Holly and I were discussing scaring siblings, as will had tried to scare me yesterday at Traders but it didn't work - I told him I had two younger sisters and was used to being snuck up on, I also think I have a second layer of skin on my feet to stop the effects of tickling - turns out Holly likes to scare her cat... definitely a you tube video).

At cha I did some drawings of the people sitting around me, then finishing my tea headed onto campus to say hi to Arlyn (tried on some tops) then buying a huge board from the book store began my final art work. It wasn't long before I needed to be in class, so arriving with a few minutes to spare I made my self comfy and handed my essay and storyboard analysis to Daynah.

We discussed the tale of two sisters, watching snippets from the movie and debating how effective the method of narration was. At 10 to 5 I collected my things together and dropping Benny's evaluations at the drama office stopped in one last time to see Arlyn (bought him a coffee as he couldn't leave his stand). At home I had a quick dinner then got to work, but seeing Sanda sick in bed, decided I'd do art instead and left her alone to sleep. At 6:30 I thought I'd go for a run before my SC meeting, arriving on time for 7 for an hour of house discussion and making up exam gift packages for each house. At home it was CHRISTMAS, I sat drawing watching everyone decorate the house, laughing and singing and making stacks of cookies! this lasted till about 11:30 then hands shaking and slightly cross eyed from doing my piece I called it quits and came to bed.

Night xo

This is my drama class!

Get inspired B%^&$H!! - name of a piece

OMG, I knew I had forgotten something last night...MY BLOG, woops ok run down of yesterday
I woke up late, groaning loudly from lack of sleep, and after switching of my alarm continued sleeping for another 2 hours, unfortunately I woke up at 10, realising I had totally missed my meeting with Chris and felt incredibly groggy. feeling bad I gobbled down breakfast and headed into uni for lunch (I know not exactly a long wait) and whilst sitting in Cha enjoying my hot tea I checked my emails, returning Chris's with an apology for my tardiness and a promise to make it up on Friday.
Feeling slightly full I headed into Alakazam for a long chat with Will about comic art and a few of his favourites, then it was more art when I bumped into Arlyn (the guy I met at the markets last weekend) - he's exhibiting at the fair on ring road, so I got to look through his sketchbook...crazy awesome!!

After saying hi to Flo, thomas and the gang at EAP as well as a quick drawing session it was of to Visual Media for THE SCARIEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN!! it's a south Korean film, "the tale of two sister" its really REALLY scary, Sarah and I were holding hands almost the entire time! Even the guys were screaming at one stage...I could see PRofessor Blim laughing evilly at the back (its her favourite movie). Scared to walk home in the dark I paired up with Sarah and helped her carry her books back to the dorm. Once home and fed I agreed to meet Sam later for a trip to the gym, and at 7:45 we had gathered a crowd of followers to come along.

The gym was fun, working out as a team, Jen and I left early to watch Heroes, and the others came half way through. Heroes was great!...but upsetting as it was the final episode. Back in my room I found it difficult to concentrate and knowing I had an early morning decided I'd call it a night.

Sanda stayed up all night doing homework, which meant I got up regurly thinking it was day (her light was on). At 6, I became sick of trying to get back to sleep so I got up, got dressed and headed to the gym, having a couple of hours before I needed to be in class. I welcomed the stuffy air as I entered the arc and shaking of the icy air outside ran a few laps of the indoor track.

Coming back after an hour or so for breakfast and a shower, I got dressed and remembering to grab my camera, got to class with time to do some more drawing. Class was pretty low key, as things are winding down for the end of the quarter, after pairing with Garett and giving each other massages and going through relaxing routines we met Benny one by one for a catch up, and being last I was able to take everyones photo and continue my drawing project.

After Class I headed back to the room to make Jens Birthday card, then having exhausted all my coloured pens and pencils I left Sanda sleeping, tacked it on Jens door and headed into uni for yogurt and lunch (heating up a pretzel for the journey). Getting a massive hug upon my arrival at Cha, I left my friend to continue training the new girl and set up in my favourite corner for a tea and study.

Checking the time and leaving room to dordle I said goodbye and on the way to class stopped by Arlyn's Booth again to show him MY sketchbook and get some great pointers about perspective, figure drawing and line technique. I was late to Art, but arriving silently, stood with the rest to hear about Mara's favourite artists and then later discuss our ideas. Leaving early with good news (class is cancelled on thursday..unless you wanted to make up a grade) I moseyed around the bookstore for a new art book then continued back to Claire Trevor with pretzels and sore shoulders (carrying my laptop around is getting painful).

Video was also pretty layed back, we watched a video made by outcast, it was surprisingly good, with an interesting story line, cool music and nice special effects. Walking out into darkness remembering to write down my meeting time with Ulysis, I headed to Zot greens for dinner and after a chai late at Starbucks whilst I cought up on some work I grabbed a tub of yoghurt and headed back to Claire Trevor for the performance art show - "Reaction tour"

It was really crazy, intense and extremely messy, just as an example one girl held up a piece of paper started ripping it and after holding it up with a smiley face torn out said.."this is you" she then ripped it up and threw it on the table, on top of this she put rubbish, poured out a bottle of tomato sauce, custard, mustard, a box of sugar, burst open a tub of pudding (which spurted all over the poor girl in the front row) as well as a few other things, she finished by taking a picture of it with her phone and saying..."this is you, I can make a mess over you, but I wont cry over you" it continued like this throughout the night, with the final act pouring black paint all over herself (I do not envy the person who has to clean up the mess in there!)

I left Kathy and her friend for the bus, sneaking out as much free food as I could carry. then meeting Jessie, Reiko and some others caught the shuttle back with them going straight to Jens room to deliver all the goodies I had collected. I found out they were going to yogurt land, so not wanting to pass up the oppurtunity (I know what your thinking...that is a serious amount of yogurt...but I'm leaving soon, I gotta make the most of it) I left with Jen, Josh and Eugene for a tub of delight chatting about accents and the performance there and back.

As we walked back in I wondered why everything was dark, then just as I thought it was strange that peopel were standing in the dark kitchen the lights switched on and everyone yelled SURPRISE!! It was great, we all sang Happy Birthday to Jen, then mingling for a little while I headed to my room to finally load Final Cut on my computer.

Now I should probably be of to bed
...Nah! ; p

say that to my face ya limp noodle!

I FINISHED IT, thats right my friends I finished my essay! Can I hear a woot woot!! yeah, I'm so happy, the day started out with an ominous feel as it lay in my computer rough and meaningless, I had some cinnamon toast for breaki with OJ and fruit, then blaming the lack of fungshway in the room grabbed my computer and headed to the uni centre, determined only to come back when it was finished.

I began with yoghurt to get my creative juices flowing, then saying goodbye went straight to Cha to get started. I warmed up with some study notes, as it just involved finding the meanings of words in my film book, after looking up 20 or so I figured lunch wouldn't hurt, and chowed down on a chicken salad with a hot taro tea (extra pearls for energy). Unable to put it of any longer I began, working working working, thinking thinking..drinking, thinking. Finally the homework paralysis started to wear of and I felt the clogs start clicking away, I was of...over the next hour I wrote, read and revised until I was satisfied...and completely intellectually nakered, I still needed an intro and conclusion but at least majority was done.

UNable to justify sitting in Cha any longer, I said goodbye and headed home, stopping by alberstons for a tub of yoghurt and soft pretzels. I heated up a pretzel when I got home (just like wetzel pretzel..mmmm) then went up to my room to finish of the essay. Feeling very pleased with my self I went for a run later that afternoon, and after dinner treated my self by drawing for the rest of the night!

witness the fruits of my labour...

Aggh thats good joe!

Hey there weekenders! It's the end of my Saturday and as my eyes droop uncontrollably and my fingers slow on the keyboard I write to you watching "Meet the Robinson's!" thanks to my birthday present from Anthony (again your the best..thank you!). I began the day at 9, waking previously to my alarm (thankfully I'd only set it for 7) stumbling downstairs in shorts and a jumper (I make sure to dress for both seasons just in case) for a few snacks. Satisfied I grabbed my book and headed to the market for a few groceries, some fruit tasting and a large cinnamon and raison loaf (I missed out on zinabons again).

Walking away, bags of goodies swinging merely on my arms, I made my way to Golden spoon for some strawberry cheesecake flavored yogurt and then Cha for chicken and potato curry and a hot tea. Feeling satisfied that I'd done enough work for the morning I proceeded to visit Will, who had just taken out some new comics, gleaming, colourful and tempting my curiosity in their glossy packets. At traders I loaded up on frozen fruit and veggies, then after stopping at Albertson's on the way back for meats I arrived home to a full kitchen, were I caught up with Brandon, a fellow ozzie and the rest of the gang, discussing petrol prices (I didn't realise they only pay 70 cents a litre) and plans for the weekend.

Unable to put of my essay any longer I slowly climbed the stairs to my room and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to write...totally unsuccessful in my attempts I also danced, sang, drew, surfed the web and hit my head against the desk trying to come up with an interesting thesis.

Dinner was broccoli, peas and crab meat topped with a generous helping of hoisin sauce, then after an apple for dessert and a political discussion watching the liberal debate on telli, I went back to my room sucking on a tootsie roll lollipop and dreading the essay mocking me on my computer! I gave up at 10 after getting nowhere (and suffering a seriously sore head) finishing instead my review of Still life with Iris and writing to you. Now I better go to bed

until tomorrow : )

You must pay homage to the spoon!

Its late so I'm keeping this brief, well as brief as I can, if it cuts of I've fallen asleep at the keyboard. It began as most other mornings do, toast, fruit and a chat with Rieko, then after checking my emails and grabbing my things I ran into the rain (yes buckets and buckets of rain) to catch the bus into uni.

First on my list of things to do was meet So young, and whilst escaping the drizzle in Starbucks chatting with Sanj, we spotted each other, proceeding then to the student centre to chat. I spent the next hour with her and two of her friends answering homework questions and chatting about languages, accents and rice for breakfast...then realising with a jolt I had 2 minutes before class to make it across campus I wished them a great weekend and holding my brand new FLURO LIME GREEN umbrella above my head fought the wind to make it just in time.

We had an exam, before which we were told we all sucked in the last critical analysis (thanks for the confidence boost) and after stressing for 20 minutes about failing I handed in my test to receive my c- : ( which according to Daynah was marked lightly...dude, I so made a mess of that one...a little miffed ("don't worry I let slide your aussie slang"..um that would be english...yeah, they started it..sorry) but determined to kick ass on the next one, I left for the uni centre for lunch.

Heading to traders for sushi I passed the french bakery slowing to see Sanda in the window waiting for lunch, changing the plan just as the rain came down with torrential force I skipped inside for an eggplant/chicken sandwich and a deep chat about our respective school systems.

Saying goodbye I moved on to yogurt for dessert, discussing with the owner the flavours of the month (they have mint flavour and cookies'n'cream!) then it was of course to Cha for an extra large taro tea, with extra pearls, and an extra special chat with an extra cool girl whilst trying to finish my extra BORING essay due wednesday. phew!

later in the afternoon I began my chat with Nauy, discussing our plans for the weekend and what we had done for the past two...we also got on the topic of monsoons. Grabbing yogurt pretzels and showing her the way to the ticket booth I walked with her to the bus stop then, spying my bus, agreed to meet next week, meeting another familiar face inside and lamenting about my dwindling time in the US.

Discovering, once in the dorm, of plans to watch Mulan and Lion King 1 1/2 I cut my gym time short and once back had dinner watching the end of sambas pride. It was then time for shower and some catch up, as well as have a squiz at the book Mere gave me about film writing. Not long and I was back outside braving the chill, making my way (after a pit stop at CHa for chai tea) to the Merry Wives at Windsor. Thankfully I had a seat next to Joselyn who could explain to me what exactly it was about (Shakespeare...with puppets).

Running through the rain (I forgot my umbrella) we lined up outside studio theatre to watch live nudes, then turning down an invitation to come inside early ("I'm with two other people") we left for somewhere drier. waiting involved playing the piano (so much fun, I haven't' played in ages, especially when a random guy joined me and to a crowd of 40 we started banging out a duet). finally we were invited in, "first on ly those on the guest list" feeling like a celebrity I saw my name on the list and grabbing my + 2'w "Jocelyn grab someone" I walked in much to the admiration of my guests..."dude I can't believe your on the guest list"

Showing them my drawings in the pamphlet we waited for the rest of the crowd to trail in and once the hall was nice a full it was an hour of laughs and tears (happy tears) as we were entertained by ALL groups. I was even chosen to be spoon barer ("At this time in the quarter we like to pick someone who has grown special to us, miss Lesley Vamos, who's pictures are in the pamphlets your all holding") and choosing team Teenage mutant ninja turtles to win the night was ended with a bang!

wow I can't believe I'm still awake, I shall finish watching the choirboys, listening to the drunken party downstairs...in Jen's room lol, then I'll hit the sake
later days!

p.s.. check this out, I didn't know people could sing that high

(after laughing hysterically) he just got it!

Today I had one of the most awesome days!! it began in a rush as I fell asleep after turning my alarm of at 6 and woke again at 20 to 8. Jumping out of bed and catching the corner (got a bruise) I fell into my clothes and raced downstairs for some cereal - I just grabbed the box and took some embarrassingly large handfuls out, then grabbing fruit and study material run over to the barn to spend 5 minutes cramming for the test.

The test wasn't too bad (another "did you understand it" one) so after recalling what I remembered we handed in our papers and began our warm ups. Things were kept at a nice easy pace spending almost the whole class looking at others monologues and critiquing them. I walked back to the gym with Trisha and hung around outside for a while talking about glasses and eye tests, then after a round at the weights and machine area I went for a run around campus, enjoying the sunny yet lightly chilly day.

I gobbled down a huge wedge of olive bread on my return, then jumped in for a shower. Leaving the house with my hair smelling all fruity I arrived at the bus stop realising with a sudden pang that I'd forgotten my wallet. Unfortunately I didn't make it back in time, and as the guy drove the bus past me shaking his head to my pleas I decided to walk to the center, ending up with massive blisters on my feet and having to walk half of the way with holding my thongs. I arrived at Traders for bread then after some yogurt and running of a few copies of my drawings in FedEx I grabbed an OJ cooler to go from Cha (I got an upsize again! I love that place) and headed to art.

Our presentation went great, everyone seemed to like the idea and we smiled (giving each other subtle high fives) when we were deemed to have the most thought out project so far (there were only a few more left, so pretty good). Getting through all the presentations and the bread, wine and choci that someone had brought I ran my next project ideas by Marcus who confused me by liking both.

Video involved watching Time Code, a weird film with four screens showing peoples lives in real time. Then just before class was over I snuck out to give the live nudes my drawings...they were so psyched, I felt like a celebrity : )

Saying good bye to class mates and promising Ulysis I'd get together with him to talk about Melbourne I left for the university centre for a dinner of beef stew at Cha and a hot drink, catching up on some work for a couple of hours. As I watched the time click steady towards 8, I finally decided to head to little theare and after grabbing some mangoes from Traders it wasn't long before I was back on campus and finding my seat.

coincidently I was sitting next to one of the girls from live nudes, so had a great time getting to know her and her friend throughout the night. The whole night was awsome, the play was really fun and whimsical, as well as hysterical. It was especially cool to see so many familiar faces in it, including Benny (drama teacher). After it was over and having thanked as much of the cast as I could (as well as saying hi to the guy that plays McLovin on Super BAD!!!!!) I left with Sarah and her friend for a ride home, discussing their serority life and celebrity encounters the whole way.

Now I'm back and tired but have still found a way to stay up past mid night...I really need more sleep...
Night everyone...or goodmorning!

P.S> watch this clip..it is the most hysterical thing EVA...no joke, you'll thank me!

shop till ya drop

Today was really great I began at the reasonable time of 9, and pulling on a jumper (its starting to get really cold) I wondered downstairs for toast and fruit. After breaki I tried hard to concentrate on doing some work, however only manages to write a list of all the work I need to get done…I’ll tackle it later ☺

I did manage to do some editing work though, and once satisfied I did a quick jog and headed into uni for lunch. I decided on my usual eggplant and chicken sandwich with some yoghurt for desert, then after a good chat with Will’s fiancĂ© at Alakazam I tucked my free 400 page magazine under my arm and settled comfortably in my favourite place at Cha for my usually Taro tea and some drawing time.

Loosing track of time I checked my watch with a start to discover I only had a few minutes before class, so running back over Watson bridge I tore through the book store for the jumper I wanted (I tried on heaps getting worried that my head was too big to fit through the top) deciding I’d come back later for a more thorough browse I payed for my jumper and ran to class.

In class I tried to concentrate but the urge to draw became too much so whilst doodling away on my notes I listened to the discussion on Memento then left thanking Sarah again for my birthday card.

I spent the next hour or so browsing the bookstore, and once I’d found a few ways to spend the voucher I left with a large bag full of new goodies (red computer case, glow in the dark keyboard cover and a case of rubbers I can put in my pacers…it was great I felt like Harry Potter when he first found out he was a millionaire and wanted to buy a gold plated cauldron, or when I was a kid and had two dollars to spend at the canteen).

Back at the house after a bus ride catching up with Jan and Lauren I had some dinner, eating on the couch discussing evolution and education with Meredith and some others. After almost finishing my drawings for live nudes I went down to the AV office for the student association meeting. After a boring hour discussing resident issues, and the newsletter, it was back to the house for more drawing (finally finished) then at 11 I placed my thank you notes on everyone’s doors and went downstairs to watch Ricky Gervais with Sam and Elodie.

Now its back upstairs for a little more work and bed…oh man, I forgot I had a test tomorrow, wish me luck!

GO SHORTY ITS YO BIRFDAY!

“Its my party I can cry if I want to cry if I want to….”

Not that I want to, there really needs to be a happier song made up about having a birthday. Any way, today was great! It began early with mixed cereal and a taste of EVERY SINGLE type of fruit I had in my pantry (no holding back today) then feeling full and content it was of to the gym for a few stretches then into class for drama. Drama was really great, we played this awesome game called Samurai were you have to react to the leaders use of their imaginary blade, jump, ducking and springing from side to side. I was pretty crap at it by I did win once by default “and its Lesley..cos its her birthday” so I had a go with the sword making swooshing noises as I brought it down on my victims (nothing like a bit of violence on your birthday). I also had a great laughing fit when Kathy slid and hit the wall (she didn’t hurt herself) as we were running around as part of Karen’s monologue. To end they all sang me a rounding chorus of Happy Birthday complete with a touch of Opera and other theatrical inflections, then after a run and another delve into the pantry for snack it was shower and a bus trip into the centre. Resisting my temptation to go to golden spoon (saving myself for tonight) I stopped about 5 times for hugs and happy birthdays then it was into Cha for green tea chicken salad with sticky sweet syrup drizzled all over it and of course a hot taro.

Checking the time and realising I was gonna run late to meet Elizabeth, I collected my things and commenting on one of the guys cool hats powered into uni to get lost trying to find the “art labs”. I found Elizabeth after a good chat with the family and we set to work scanning my drawings for out presentation on power point.

Running late for class we snuck in at 10 past one and ended up just enjoying the others speeches as they had decided to hold computer presentations till next lesson. After class I bumped into the lead girl on live nudes and asked her about which guy played each tnmt, then it was into class to find out Ulysis had pushed the deadline on our videos to include another weekend (is that a good birthday present of what!)

Class involved helping Bret out with his shoot then getting out early as most had already left when we wrapped up. Back into Cha for dinner I sat for a while catching up on work and drawing till I needed to be back on campus for the Simpson’s movie.
As I was walking in I bumped into my Cambera bound friend for some more birthday wishes and a promise to catch up later this week. Waiting in the line was spent with some new friends (they were standing next to me) Stephanie and Marline. The movie was pretty good, especially as I went in with low expectations, the great thing was that it knew it was a cartoon, and could therefore get away with a lot.

I caught the bus back with the girls and parted when we arrived at the arc. I had just enough time to right back to some of the awesome birthday messages I've recieved, delighting as well in the presents I found on my desk and the messages taped to my door!! at 10:30 most of the dorm met downstairs for yogurt land, it was great I had the largest size they had, cookies and cream, vanilla, Taro, mango, strawberry, with all sorts of fruit on top...as I sat there enjoying my meal, blushing to the sounds of the loudest happy birthday song I've ever heard, I couldn't have been happier!! To those of you reading that saw me today thank you so much for making it one of the best birthdays I've ever had!

When we got home I spent about an hour talking to Meredith, Elodie and Anna, then at 1am it was time for bed

This was my present from Anna and Reiko (socks and little anteater)!!

The Gecko is definately from England

ITS MY BIRTHDAY YEAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, I shouldn't be up past midnight but I figured you only turn 21 once so I better ring it in big...by big I mean screaming it out and doing a little jig (much to Sanda's surprise). Today was pretty good, I tried my market bought multi grain bread which was really tasty, then it was yogurt and fruit and a paroose on the net to check emails and blogs for early birthday wishes. It was at this moment that I realised the real reason I keep joining clubs for awaiting me in my inbox were a fair few automated birthday well wishes. Getting dressed and ready with a warm fuzzy feeling inside and a skip in the ol'step I walked to uni to see Chris and after an hour of venting I toddled of to University Centre for my usual serve of yogurt, a toasty eggplant/ chicken sandwich and a good sit in Cha sipping slowly at my taro tea and having a chat with one of the girls from live nudes, (she really liked my drawing, and wants to put them in the program for this week...better get cracking).

She left me alone to draw for another half hour or so then getting a little hot I said goodbye and finished drawing at EAP, catching up on thanksgiving activities with Floriana and the gang. One of the guys is even coming to my birthday party!

We watched Memento in Visual Media, which was fairly confusing, making sure before I left to tell Sarah that the gecko in the GEIKO commercial is NOT australian but I'm fairly sure from Manchester...they have much to learn...walking out to a cold dark night I headed back to UC for a chai tea, print my photos (I had to show the guy how to print them properly) then it was back home for dinner (a quick spell in the gym) and finish my bathroom pictures...If I never draw the back of someone's head again it will be too soon.

In fact to prove my deliriousness I keep plugging my headphones into the wrong hole, Sanda's had to tell me twice that its wrong, the first time I thought she just had really good hearing! The second time I knew it was time for me to go to bed

Well talk to you tonight : )

Do you want my number?

Today I walked...I walked and walked and walked! I started with breakfast, nice and hearty in order to give my self energy for the day, I wasn't sure how long it would take to get to the markets so I ate as much as I would need to walk to switzerland just in case. The feast included a huge zinabon, OJ, yogurt, fruit and a few stray items in my cupboard. Once dressed and loaded with essentials for the day, you know wallet, camera, first aid kit.

I was on my way, I walked across highways, down alleys, over bridges got lost (found a hotel to ask directions) finally I made it, (I would have jumped for joy if I could feel my feet). The market was awesome! it was HUGE, it had at least 40 isles food, cars, nick nacks, you name it they had it. After munching on a soft pretzel and chugging down a bottle of water I finally got the stall I'd been looking for, Will and the guys in Alakazam had told me about this awesome illustrator Arlyn Pillay (check him out he's really great). I was really happy to find him there and had a nice chat about drawing and other fun stuff, leaving with a badge and directions to the bus stop I arrived to meet a girl waiting for the same bus.

On the ride I got to know her a little better as well as a couple that asked me were Willoughby Girls was. After being on the bus for almost an hour I started to get a little worried, finally we arrived at a junction, it was here I was informed we had arrived in Santa Anna...I HAD GONE THE WRONG WAY! After waiting for the replacement bus driver it was back on the bus for another hour and a half to get to fashion island, meeting a creepy 40 year old Mexican on the way that wanted to give me his phone number.

At Fashion island I was bummed out to discover I had missed the movie I wanted to see so after a quick browse of the shops and a long wait at the bus stop I caught the 79 back to University city, almost mistaken for a dead person as I fell asleep along the way "Miss...excuse me miss, are you ok?" (I think she thought I'd died from hypothermia cos I had asked earlier to get on the bus out of the cold). At the centre it was a serving of yoghurt, a browse in Alakazam and a hot drink at Cha before it was back home for dinner, prawn and vegi stir fry : ) not to mention jelly for dessert.

now I'll probably do some drawings and watch stand up comedy till bed time, catcha tomorrow...I more day till my birthday!

Woops, almost forgot a title...that'll do

Well faithful blogers, I've come to the close of another day, writing this blog trying not to look at the keyboard to practice my touch typing, I think I'm going to look for most though...there, just did.
So its Saturday, or market, sit on your ass, do absolutely nothing day as I've lovingly come to call it. As thats the majority of what I do, I woke up at the nice late time of 9:03 (for those playing at home) and tottled (not a word you hear everyday) downstairs for a light breaki of cereal and fruit (and a spoonfull of yogurt...its literally that hard to get out of the container its sooo frozen). Then getting dressed and doing some stretches, I don't think I've gone to the gym in like 3 days I feel so lazy!

I walked briskly to the markets were I spent the next hour wondering around buying zinabons (last one phew!) OJ and other goodies, then after a large serving of FREE yogurt from golden spoon (thanks to my loyalty card) I spent another hour in Cha enjoying a beef stew with corn and salad as well as a hot taro tea. I tried reading all my reading, but was severely sidetracked throughout due to its insanely boring content and really difficult vocabulary...I even asked the girls beside me what "epistemological" meant...they had no idea. Giving up with four pages to go, I left after one last look at the decorations people had coloured in, they looked great on the wall and it was so cool to think people had actually taken time to colour in my designs!

Popping in to see Will and spending an extended amount of time in the book store I collected all my groceries in a bag and headed home, bumping into a guy from the dorm along the way to find out all about his thanksgiving. Once at home It was of to my room to spend a frustrating amount of time on imovie (it kept shutting down so I lost heaps of work) then the rest of the afternoon drawing and eating. Oh I also made a cool poster for my birthday, hopefully people can come : )

To all you readers, you still haven't sent me photos of yourselves...either your too lazy or there's no one
reading, in that case never mind...
until tomorrow ; p

I've been staring at a toilet for 4 hours!

Today turned out to be fairly uneventful. I began with toast (three pieces as I needed to finish the loaf...I think they were stale) some seriously frozen yogurt and fruit. Finishing the morning in my room in my pj's doing work and listening to music I got pekish around miday and after some thanksgiving leftovers headed to the uni centre for yogurt, a chat with the guy from Alakazam and a long sit in Cha drinking an extra large taro milk tea ("and because its lesley we...upsize it"...I love them in there).

After gulping down sweet butter toast (a phat chunk of bread loaded with this honey butter and toasted under a grill) I drew them christmas decorations for their customers to colour in, finished my drama reading, collected my print job from Fed Ex and wondered home. At home I spent the afternoon on the computer doing more work as well as some drawing for Art (bellow) that little baby took me a few hours, straight to a dinner of more leftovers, jelly and other things I found lying around the fridge.

More work later and a private screening of Raise your Voice (man its quite around here) I danced around to daft hands (I hope you watched it) then it was blog time, shower time and bed time...

Hopefully I'll have more interesting stuff for you tomorrow : )

Is that still a requirement?

aggghhh...that my friends is the sound of being blissfully full, as well as snuggling into a really warm bed (Sanda lent me one of her blankets so now I'm all toasty and ready to write) I began the day with breaki at around 8, saying goodbye to Sanda and wishing her a happy Thanksgiving as she made her way to her dads (she'll go to her mums tomorrow). I had a light breaki in order to prepare myself for dinner, so after toast and a decent serving of golden spoon, I went for a jog into the uni centre for a hot chai tea at Deadrichs cafe. Then once back, showered and chocolates under arm I waited at the bus stop for Sarah to pick me up. We drove to Tustin in her pick up truck, discussing the days plans, which house we'd be visiting as well as who I'd meet when I got there.

Once we arrived at her grandmothers I was immediately welcomed into the family as I met those that were there, was lightly educated on the tree through photos from last thanksgiving and got ready to play softball. We walked to the park with Molly and once there practiced throwing (Sarah gave me some hints) and batting (Sarah's dad showed me how to bat like the pros) then it was play ball, I spent most of the time on second and managed to get someone out "I hope you were all watching that, cos thats gonna be the only time I do that"

After playing for about an hour or so Sarah and I rode home in the model car with her grandpa (the car was made in 1924) and while she continued on home to help her mum I spent the afternoon with her half uncles, brothers and friends jamming, juggling and discussing uni and music. At around 4 we held hands for a prayer and started dinner I loaded my plate with turkey, celery/ cranberry jelly, sweet potatoes, candied sweet potato (had brown sugar, butter and pecans) gravy, olives and more. I went back for thirds, as well as sneaking more turkey while helping to clean the kitchen (someone had to clean the plate). As the amount of women grew I was squeezed out of washing duty and went to help John (Sarah's brother) with his film, my job was to pull the glass of the table with the fishing line tied to it.

I spent the rest of the night mingling, talking about cameras with Dan, Animation with her dad and grandpa, music with Molly, film with John, music with Wyatt, uni with his girlfriend Susanna and various other convos going on in the house I also spent a little time educating them on Australian customs "you don't sound Ozzi, are you sure your from Australia"..."I think so" I found an ally in a family friend from england, as we tried to explain the difference between jelly, jell-o and jam . After dessert and a song or two on the piano we wound up the conversations and slowly trickled out. Hugging everyone goodbye and promising to come back before I leave ("It was a good idea to bring her") Sarah drove me home discussing her book for most of the way (sounds really interesting) then saying goodbye and juggling my many containers of left overs I walked into the house for a midnight snack...couldn't resist, then a blog entry and now bed.
Happy thanksgiving!

PS, One of the guys said he was behind an Englishman at customs when he came to Australia and after checking his passport and papers the officer asked him whether he had a criminal record, the man replied "Is that still a requirement?"
